Some answers to prayer I want to let you know about. Cheryl’s brother and wife have tickets to fly back from Australia. If all goes well they will be back in LA on Monday morning. Also, there is some exciting news on possible treatments, which you probably heard of from President Trump. Keep praying for those who are sick and all those helping us deal with it.
Thank you for your ministry of staying home. It may not feel like a ministry but you should realize how much it helps. Not only do you protect yourself, you protect others by slowing down how quickly the virus will spread.
Look at the graphic to see the impact. The number of people a sick person will infect before they get well is considered a measure of how infectious a disease is considered to be. The flu is 1.2, meaning it will be passed on to 1.2 people before getting well. The Chinese Corona Virus is considered to be at least 2.5 and may be higher.
Now look at the graphic. If it is 2.5, in five days that’s how many, if you go about your normal life, will get the virus from you. In 30 days that will turn into 406 people infected. Now if you reduce your contacts by 50% in five days you’ll have passed it on to 1.25 which will result in 15 people infected in 30 days. Suppose you go further and reduce exposure by 75%. That will lead to .625 people infected in five days and only 2.5 infected in 30 days. Do you see why staying home makes an impact? Instead of a tsunami of sick patients it will become a more manageable, treatable stream of people.
Some, I see on the news are indifferent to the needs of others. They think only of what they need and want. That’s not the way of followers of Jesus. Jesus put it this way, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” Thank you for loving your neighbors by staying home as much as you can.
